That's how game design is done these days, in this industry. It's pandering to whatever crap suggestion they see most often on their social media skimming. There's no playtesting, there's no intelligent design decision being made here. At no point, I'm absolutely positive, did they ever play the game themselves, thought hey we need such and such an item in this niche, let's design it up. The only reason it was put in was probably they skimmed the forums, saw a bunch of new players crying about how they don't have infinite power at all times, and said hey "the community" wants this so let's put it in. If whatever individual who's doing game design at SE was capable or interested in doing that, half the brokenly overpowered crap in Astro today wouldn't be there, mini RTG included. Though, it doesn’t hurt to put everything in neat little rows, since a tidy home base is a happy home base.Īstroneer is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.Originally posted by Dekrosna:maintain balance of power production There’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to how a base should be set up, as long as each player is able to fulfill their duties as a proper Astroneer and explore the galaxy to find precious minerals and strange new planets. Once Astroneers have gathered enough bytes and starting resources such as plastic which can be found on any planet, it will become easier for them to establish an alternating setup that won’t require too much thought and fits each player's style. However, in the beginning it’s highly recommended that players have a rotating array of equipment so that they can have their solar panels working during the day while keeping batteries of varying sizes on hand for nighttime excursions. Many players have crafted what they feel is the best approach to early game base power use, though this often comes with trial and error. One of the best power-generating pieces of equipment in the game is the RTG, but it costs 12,500 bytes to build as well as some incredibly complicated components, so players will be better off working with the resources they're first handed before worrying too much about getting access to infinite power right away.Įarly game can be a bit of a struggle, with there only being a certain amount of resources such as malachite available on Sylva, hindering immediate use of large power stores such as the RTG, with most Astroneers left to forage for batteries and scout for things such as wind turbines and solar panels to use. Since Astroneer has such immersive crafting methods, this means that the more energy a piece of equipment produces, the more difficult it will be to build, such as taking up more bytes and materials. However, for the home base on Sylva there is plenty of daylight to power solar panels and occasional gusts of wind for turbines, so the only issue early on is finding them. The good news is that in Astroneer players have their pick of generators, wind turbines, and solar panels, with the slightly more complicated news being that they won’t be able to utilize all of them on certain planets. RELATED: Astroneer: The Best Storage Options for Each Shuttle As an Astroneer in the intergalactic Age of Discovery, it’s up to fans to discover not only new planets and resources, but which types of equipment will net them the most power. While late-game sees players setting up bases all across different types of planets that have varying levels of difficulty, the home planet of Sylva, depicted as earth-like since it’s easy to find the few resources seen across all planets, players will be able to utilize a wide variety of ways to harvest power. And when players begin their journey across the galaxy in Astroneer, they'll find the need for quite a bit of power in order to literally fuel their space adventures to discover the secrets of the universe, though the amount of bytes a player starts off with won’t nearly be enough to see them through the entire game. As with any great expedition, there must always be a home base for rest, recovery, and storing the goods found while traveling.
